Mike Anderson (acoustic guitar) and Jacq Dorn (concert guitar) blend different elements of European art music as well as echoes of Spanish and Balkan folk music very authentically to create their own compositions.

Anderson Dorn presents an original blend in which, with musical intelligence and clever arrangements, different influences are blended in a unique and lively way. The tonal palette of the duo is what really makes their music interesting; not only their virtuosic technical mastery of a variety of genres, but also the combination of classical and steel string guitar which creates the foundation of their varied and exciting sound.

The duo has seven original compositions on their first CD, “Essences”. “La salida” conjures up fluid dreams on strings, spiced with percussive barbs and very quiet Spanish accents. While “Impulsion ardente” combines rhythmic energy and pithy percussiveness, “Toccata” rolls out a sound continuum of progressive arpeggios made up of driving and driven rhythms, highlighted by baroque technique and iridescent tonal colorations. The piece “Opus Magnum”, almost a quarter of an hour long, engenders its own sonic universe with a rich stylistic mix of rhapsodic elements and shifts back and forth between duple and triplet times. It spins a tantalizing web of exploratory motifs, tempos and tonal textures, in which for a split second the sound of a Middle Eastern oud seems to be created. The sound of the guitars becomes its own musical cosmos, whose small songlike passages are carried by an irresistible, accentuated rhythmic thematic motif. The musical rhetoric of “La barca nel mare” describes the soft rising and falling of a skiff on the waves. “La promessa” demonstrates once again the duo’s skills at painting with sound and recollects film music.
